Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not exactly struggling when it comes to the attacking options at his disposal this season.

Sadio Mane has been out of this world of late, scoring goals in a variety of ways to demonstrate his wide range of talents, Roberto Firmino has been as consistent as ever and Mohamed Salah – in what many are calling a disappointing season for the Egyptian star – still has 20 goals to his name across all competitions.

The trio’s form means that the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are all forced to bide their time and make do with fleeting appearances from the substitutes’ bench – which would probably be the case whoever was in reserve.

With the likes of Swiss pocket rocket Shaqiri as back up, it should come as a surprise to read in the Telegraph that the Reds are joined by Tottenham and Arsenal in hunting Benfica’s young winger Jota – or Joao Filipe to use his given name – this summer.

With a reported release clause of £25million it is already a hefty price to pay for a youngster with four senior appearances in football – so the possibility of that being increased, with talks said to be underway over a new contract to “substantially” ramp up the price to trigger his exit, should leave everyone wary about pursuing his capture.

Quite frankly his current asking price is more than what anyone should be paying and so Liverpool must let Tottenham and Arsenal free to battle that one out in north London.

There will be better value for money talents out there to snap up at Anfield – perhaps in positions that they actually need to strengthen in too.
