Liverpool had a quiet January transfer window, so they will no doubt be wanting to spruce things up a bit this summer.

They went all out in last summer’s transfer window with the signings of Alisson, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho, and this time around, they should act no differently.

At that time, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the Reds were interested in Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa. He was a bright and prosperous talent, so it was no surprise that they were keen on the 21-year-old.

They must spark another hunt for him in a few months’ time, as he has greatly improved over the course of the season. The dazzler has scored an impressive 12 goals on 31 appearances for the Serie A side, which is a very promising return for someone who operates on the wing.

This kind of goal scoring form suggests that Chiesa is able to be flexible in where he plays along the attacking line, a trait which is admired by Jurgen Klopp. Shaqiri is also a player who can do this, but Chiesa has the potential to offer new ideas.

He is young, that is a given, but the talent he has is undeniable. If Liverpool thought he was talented last summer, then it is definitely a whole different kettle of fish this time. They would be fools if they did not reignite their interest in the youngster, as it is clear that he is still waiting to be unleashed.

Yes, he is untested in a division like the Premier League, but perhaps he needs the step up to really showcase what he is all about. If he moved to Liverpool and impressed straight away, it would bode very well for his development.

Klopp would hit the jackpot by signing a player like Chiesa, so he must make sure Liverpool set their sights on him once again.
