Aldridge drools over Fabinho

|

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has drooled over current Reds midfielder Fabinho, calling him a “class act”.

The £100,000-a-week Brazilian [Spotrac] came on with 13 minutes left of Sunday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham, and made a real difference in the middle of the park.

Referring to that performance, Aldridge has heaped praise on the midfield battler.

In a column for the Echo, he said: “At the moment, he is imperative to Liverpool and he’s been excellent for a number of months in midfield.

“I think at this present moment in time, he is absolutely Liverpool’s best midfielder, without a doubt. I thought he might have come on a lot earlier to steady the ship but when he did come on, he was a class act.”

OPINION

It’s easy to see why Aldridge has felt the need to wax lyrical over Fabinho. The midfielder has been superb in recent weeks, and it was a bit of a surprise that he didn’t get the nod against Tottenham from the outset. He is combative and calm in the centre of the park, and just adds another steely dimension to things for the Reds when they need him most. Evidently he loves a a bit of a scrap in the engine room, and when you have as many big games as Liverpool do on the horizon, you need somebody to put in the reducers and keep things ticking over the in the centre of the park. Fabinho has to be in the starting lineup from now on, and if he’s not then there needs to be some serious questions asked. He might have struggled in England at first, but that is firmly behind him, and he has slowly become a key player for the Reds.
