Rangers manager and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is ready to return to Anfield this summer in a potential swoop for three Reds young guns, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that the Ibrox chief would ideally love to bring Ryan Kent, Curtis Jones and Ben Woodburn to Glasgow in time for next season and the Gers are plotting a move as a result.

The former has starred on loan with Gerrard’s side this campaign, but there is an acknowledgement that his form may have priced the Scottish giants out of a permanent move for him.

The report doesn’t state whether these would be permanent or loan moves, but in the cases of Jones and Woodburn you would imagine that Jurgen Klopp would only sanction temporary deals.

OPINION

This is an interesting one. Woodburn has long been thought of as an extremely bright prospect within the Liverpool academy. However, his stock has dipped this season after a troubling time on loan at Championship high flyers Sheffield United. He came back from that experience chastened and so his next loan spell is going to be hugely important. In that respect, Rangers would be a great move for him. Gerrard would make him feel a million dollars and he would certainly feature regularly. As for Jones, he’s someone who Klopp has always admired. He seems like he’s set for a bright future with the Reds so, again, why not send him to Ibrox and see what he can accomplish up there? It’s worked out for Kent, there’s no doubt about that. He has been one of Rangers’s best players this season and has genuinely come on leaps and bounds. Whether Gerrard will be able to afford him permanently remains doubtful at this stage, but he would clearly love to keep him in Glasgow. Also Liverpool should always attempt to make the most of manager like Gerrard being eager to sign their young talent.
