Danny Higginbotham has heaped praise on Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson for his involvement in the Reds’ win over Chelsea on Sunday.

The midfielder provided the assist for Sadio Mane’s opener with a delicately dinked cross, before putting in a clever decoy run to open up space for Mo Salah’s stunning second.

Taking to Twitter during the match, Sky pundit Higgninbotham was eager to point out his importance to the result.

He said: “Henderson brilliant movement for both Liverpool goals.”

OPINION

Higginbotham’s praise of Henderson is fully deserved. The Liverpool captain has been a real powerhouse over the past week and a bit, and his sudden purple patch will be a very welcome boost to a side entering the most incredibly tense part of their season. The obvious reason for his revelatory form has been his transition into a more advanced role in the centre of the park, and it was that newfound freedom that brought him so much success against Chelsea on Sunday. Henderson was popping up in areas that he ordinarily would never have found playing as a number six, and when he gets in those positions, he always shows a surprising amount of poise. Down the years, we as a footballing audience have almost been indoctrinated into believing that Henderson is some kind of Luddite, agricultural and unimaginative, but increasingly he is showing that he can, and will, make a real difference for the Reds if given the licence to do so.
