Matthew Le Tissier took a cheeky dig at Liverpool during their 3-1 win against Southampton on Friday night.

The Sky Sports pundit took to his personal Twitter account to point out the Saints may have caused the Reds to drop points if the correct offside decision was made.

Mohamed Salah appeared to be offside in the build up to Naby Keita’s goal, which put the Reds back on level-terms after going a goal behind, and Le Tissier cheekily claimed that while the Reds were the more talented team on Friday, they shouldn’t need the officials to turn the game around.

However the pundit then claimed that the Reds were wrongly denied a penalty when Keita was brought down in the box.

“Might have done if the correct offside was given, clearly the more talented team won but they shouldn’t need the officials to turn the game around,” tweeted Le Tissier.

“Looked a pen to me.”

OPINION

Le Tissier is clearly a little bit bitter that Southampton lost to Liverpool on Friday night as his cheeky dig is clearly unwarranted. Salah was offside in the build-up to Keita’s goal, however it was a marginal offside and by the time the goal was scored, enough time had past that the Saints defence had even reset themselves. The fact that Sky Sports presenter Kelly Coates even explained during the broadcast of the match on Sky that VAR, if it was in play, wouldn’t have ruled out the goal (Source: Daily Express), should have been enough to make Le Tissier have no qualms about the result. This is especially the case when he doesn’t avoid sharing he thought the Reds had been denied a clear penalty. While the pundit was probably just being playful with his remarks after a disappointing night for the side he supports, maybe next time, he should steer away from making such remarks.
