Former England international Ian Wright sent a heartfelt message to Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after his long-awaited return from injury on Friday night.

The 25-year-old came off the bench in his team’s 5-0 battering of Huddersfield Town at Anfield, and almost found the back of the net, as well.

Wright sent the Reds star his best wishes after his cameo appearance: “Great to see you back,” he wrote on a story on his personal Instagram account on Saturday morning.

OPINION

Wright is absolutely spot on here even though he only used five words. It was truly tremendous to see Oxlade-Chamberlain back with the first team and strutting his stuff at Anfield once again. There was nary a sign of ring rust either, as he looked excellent in his brief spell on the pitch. It’s rare that someone comes back from a long term injury like this and looks just as good as he did before, but the former Arsenal man showed signs that he may well soon be back to his very best. Liverpool have certainly missed Oxlade-Chamberlain’s drive and goalscoring ability from midfield, although Naby Keita’s recent upturn in form has helped negate that somewhat. However, midfield is certainly the weakest area of the pitch for the Reds and so to have Oxlade-Chamberlain back for the last couple of games of the season is a big boost for Jurgen Klopp. But for now, as Wright says, it’s just good to see Oxlade-Chamberlain back in first team action.
