Tony Bellew has claimed that he wants Jurgen Klopp and Virgil van Dijk to leave Liverpool because he resents how good they are.

The Evertonian boxer did not mince his words when summing up the impact both have had for the Reds in recent times.

Speaking on talkSPORT after his fierce rivals were pipped to the Premier League title by Manchester City, he said: “Every time I hope Liverpool lose something, they end up winning. So I hope they win the Champions League. I hope they tank Spurs about 5-0…

“Jurgen Klopp does absolutely fantastic in finals, as we’ve seen, so I’m just hoping he has another great night in a final.

“He’s one of the best managers in the world and they’ve got the best defender in all the world, so it really should be a walk in the park for them.

“The sooner Jurgen Klopp and Virgil van Dijk leave our city the better, for me.”

OPINION

If nothing else, after cruelly missing out on the title despite an incredible season, Liverpool can take some comfort from knowledge of the fact that they are causing Evertonians everywhere heartbreak with their newfound winning ways. They may not have won the title yesterday, but realistically they couldn’t have done much more, and the Kop will know that success must be on the horizon. The most obvious and immediate opportunity they will have will come when they face Spurs in the Champions League final on June 1st, but even if they don’t manage to win that – and at this stage that would be a pretty big shock – then you have to fancy their chances of being a serious domestic force for years to come. The side that Klopp has built at Anfield, the identity and the passion it exudes, is a massive threat to City’s dominance. They may have come up short this time, but next year they will believe they can go all the way.
