Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has sent a message to the club after they just missed out on the Premier League title on the final day.

Manchester City’s big win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday secured them successive title triumphs, but Carragher was still proud of his team, and took the time to have a dig at two of the Reds’ biggest rivals.

“Congratulations to Man City worthy winners of the PL,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Great effort from LFC & 1 more win away from number 6 don’t forget!

“Man United can’t beat Cardiff & the blues are as bad as ever!!,” he finished.

OPINION

This is to be expected from Carragher, really, and is probably how a lot of Liverpool fans are feeling after their final day disappointment. They may have missed out on the title to City by the smallest of margins, but they can still reflect on being lightyears ahead of both their biggest rivals Manchester United and Everton. He’s right, though, United, in particular, are an absolute mess. A 2-0 defeat to already-relegated Cardiff condemned them to a lacklustre sixth place finish in the Premier League and a Europa League place. Everton, on the other hand, battled inconsistency for large portions of the campaign before belatedly finding their groove under manager Marco Silva. They ended up having a decent-ish season, but they are still nowhere near Liverpool, and United aren’t much closer. So while it will sting to lose the title in such disappointing fashion, the Reds are still far superior to United and the Toffees.
