Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has been named on the shortlist for the Scottish Football Writer’s Association International Player of the Year award, as reported by Superscoreboard.

The full-back has been a standout performer for both club and country this season, and currently wears the armband for his nation as well.

Robertson has been nominated for the accolade alongside Celtic duo Callum Mcgregor and James Forest, as well as Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

Superscoreboard announced the shortlist via Twitter on Thursday morning.

OPINION

Robertson is surely the winner of this one. The defender has been in fine form for Liverpool, but he has been the brightest spark in that Scotland side by a decent way this season. There are some good players in that side, no doubt, and there are a whole lot of them who could go on to become even better, but right now Robertson is the one talent you look at and think is a cut above the rest. Watching him play alongside his compatriots really emphasises the gulf in quality that he has opened up, and he is a credit to that Scotland team. Performances on the whole have been fairly disappointing this campaign, but Robertson will be hoping that given a bit of time and some belief in their own capabilities, this team has enough to turn things around and finally start challenging for tournament qualification. More than anything else, a player of his powers deserves to play on the biggest of stages.
