Liverpool are unlikely to make a move for Sassuolo attacker Domenico Berardi, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that the Reds probably won’t be making a move for the Serie A star, despite him recently professing his desire to move to Anfield.

“Being able to choose, I would play in Liverpool,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport, as per Goal, amidst plenty of transfer speculation on his future.

The Italian international has bagged nine goals and five assists in 35 games this campaign.

OPINION

The timing of a potential move for Berardi seems to be off, even if he clearly desires a move to Jurgen Klopp’s side. The 24-year-old burst onto the scene with three excellent seasons starting with 2012/13, hitting double figures in each, but he has been unable to replicate that success in the past few campaigns. He’s not quite found his groove for Sassuolo of late and so you have to think, why would the Reds go in for him now? He is a versatile attacker, capable of playing out wide and through the middle, but has he done enough to suggest he’d be able to challenge Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane for game time? Probably not. He’s a decent enough player, but that’s not good enough for a team like Liverpool. Klopp will know he needs world class talent if he is to overcome Manchester City next season and Berardi’s probably not quite there yet.
