Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has expressed his delight in being involved with the first team again ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League final clash with Tottenham.

The midfielder has only managed to register two first team appearances in the Premier League this season, after suffering a long-term knee injury sustained in last season’s Champions League semi-final.

However, the 25-year old may now be called upon in the final against Spurs, assuming he is completely fit and ready for the challenge after a tough season on the sidelines.

Yet Oxlade-Chamberlain shared he’d understand not playing in the Champions League final as he was just content being fit and healthy again at the minute.

“Dreams are made of maybe having some part to play in Madrid, but it’s not about me – it’s about making sure whoever is on the pitch does the job for the club and for the team.” said Oxlade-Chamberlain to liverpoolfc.com.

“If I can be involved, that would be amazing, but just to be around it and be fit and healthy again is good for me as well at the minute.”

OPINION

This season has been an incredibly tough one for Oxlade-Chamberlain, and it would be nice for him and the club if he could have some involvement in the Champions League final. However, although he is supposedly fit and ready to compete, it doesn’t seem too likely that Jurgen Klopp will take the risk of playing him in such an important, fast-paced fixture after spending so long on the sidelines this season. Liverpool will still have a huge task on their hands to bring the Champions League trophy back to Anfield, and it’s doubtful that Klopp will be dropping players who have been reliable all season just so that the 25-year old can start in the final. It’s clear to see however that Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t too bothered about starting in the final, and he is only focused on what could possibly be achieved as a team, which is always nice to see for the Liverpool fans.
