Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Rhian Brewster’s involvement in their clash with Barcelona is “guaranteed” and this highlights the need for Liverpool to bring in more attacking options in the summer.

After injuries to both Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah, Liverpool are down to the bare minimum with only Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi the only two senior options to partner Sadio Mane in their front three.

Although Brewster has enjoyed a great few years in the youth ranks at Liverpool, he is definitely not the answer for his club going into their biggest clash of the season.

Klopp said in his press conference, as quoted by the BBC, before the match on Tuesday: “He’s ready. There is a big chance. It’s nearly sure. It’s guaranteed.”

Brewster has only previously been in the senior match-day squad once in 2017 and has recently returned from a major injury which kept him out for the majority of this season having only made two appearances for the under-23’s.

The 19-year-old certainly has a bright future at Anfield but this inclusion is too early and shows the Liverpool board it’s time to bring in senior players that can make a difference at any given time in the biggest games.

This reiterates the need for Liverpool to strengthen their attacking options after a year of defensive reinforcementsĀ  arriving at the club.

Liverpool are on the verge of losing out on the Premier League title to Manchester City whose attacking options in their squad are much stronger than Klopp’s, based purely on their depth and ability to bring class off the bench at any given time.

If Liverpool are to becomes winners rather than just challenging year in year out then money must be spent in the summer.
