OPINION

This transfer window will be an interesting one for Liverpool.

Whether or not Jurgen Klopp will feel the need today his toe in the market at all is a matter of some debate, and if he does, to what extent he is willing to do so is another matter entirely.

The Reds’ current squad is pretty strong as it is. If it wasn’t for a ridiculously good Manchester City team we would be talking about one of the greatest Premier League champions of all time, and there could still be a Champions League trophy to come at the end of a very impressive season.

The fact of the matter is, however, that City do exist, and as long as they do, Klopp will have to find a way to outsmart and outlast them in the race for a long-awaited league title.

That means that some kind of business will surely have to be done this summer, especially with City likely to spend as they look to reopen the gap between themselves and the rest of the division.

Pulses on Merseyside will no doubt quicken to learn, therefore, that the Reds are already on the lookout for new additions.

According to Mercato365, Klopp had scouts present at Lyon’s 3-0 win over Marseille on Sunday.

The report suggests that the German had men keeping tabs on three players, none of whom were last summer’s near-signing Nail Fekir.

The Reds were supposedly watching Tanguy Ndombele, Houssem Aouar and Memphis Depay; a battling midfielder, a creative engine room man, and a tricky winger respectively.

Whether there is anything in the report remains to be seen, but certainly, the signs are good for some form of activity at Anfield this summer.
