Liverpool are in the race to sign Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos in the summer, according to Spanish outlet AS.

The newspaper claim that Manchester United and Liverpool are two clubs who are keen on the Spanish international, with Juventus also in the race for his signature.

AS report that Juventus are the club most willing to put in a strong bid for Ramos, as Cristiano Ronaldo will be urging them to make a move.

It is also believed that Ramos still has two years remaining on his contract with Madrid (which ends in 2021) and the contract is believed to have a release clause of €800million. (Approximately £701.3million)

Ramos has missed out on the end of the La Liga season with a hamstring injury, but will be playing his football with the Spanish national team over the summer.

OPINION

If Ramos were to make the switch to Anfield, it would be an unbelievable move which could arguably win Liverpool the Premier League next year. The Spaniard is easily one of the best central defenders in the world, and if he were to be partnered with Virgil Van Dijk then it’s hard to see where any defensive issues would come from. Arguably, the 33-year old’s age could be an issue should this transfer come to fruition, as the Reds would no doubt have to shell out a great amount of money for the services of Ramos if they were to sign him before the conclusion of his contract, which still has two years left on it. This move would be absolutely colossus, and if it happened would surely be the missing piece in the Reds’ Premier League title challenge. For Jurgen Klopp to bring someone in with this much experience, specifically 163 international caps, would be magnificent, and really change the dynamic of this already impressive Liverpool side.
