Liverpool legend John Aldridge has suggested that the club should make a move to sign Tottenham ace Lucas Moura.

The £80,000-a-week Brazilian [Spotrac] has been in fine form for Spurs this season, hitting 15 goals in all competitions, including a hat trick in the Champions League semi-final.

And Aldridge believes that he could be ideal man to strengthen Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Writing in a column for the Irish Independent, he said: “I wonder whether Lucas Moura could be prised away from Tottenham, as he had to be a little bemused to be left out of their Champions League final starting line-up after he scored a fantastic hat-trick in the semi-final against Ajax.

“Moura is a tricky forward who could slot into the team if any of the front three were out and the same could be said of his team-mate Son Heung-min, although I would be surprised if Spurs allowed the South Korean to leave after his outstanding season.”

OPINION

You have to admire Aldridge’s optimism here, but what is he thinking? Yes, Lucas would be a stunning signing for the Reds, and he would ideally bridge that gap between world class player and backup option to Klopp’s current front three, but there is no way that Tottenham would sell him. Aside from the fact that he is a very important player to Mauricio Pochettino’s team, the fact is that Spurs would never relinquish a talent like him to a club they will justifiably see as a title rival next term. The only way Liverpool might be abel to snap Lucas up is if they bid silly money for him, and if you’re going to take that approach, why not just go for a well-established big name from the continent? Liverpool have more chance of signing Aldridge himself than Lucas Moura this summer, and that really is saying something.
