Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans has delivered his verdict on the Reds’ transfer plans this summer, claiming that Jurgen Klopp doesn’t need to sign many players.

The Reds won a sixth European title last term, as well as taking Manchester City to the final day in their bid to claim a first league title in 29 years.

And Evans believes that his former club have enough in the locker to keep spending relatively low this transfer window.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo, he said: “We don’t need too many players. We have to be selective. It only needs to be players who can improve the squad.

“There doesn’t need to be huge changes and we only need to bring in players who will make a big impact.”

OPINION

Evans is probably fairly right with this one. Looking at Liverpool’s current squad, it’s hard to immediately identify any areas that might be in need of improvement this summer. Certainly, as far as the starting eleven is concerned, it would take a very special player to break into Jurgen Klopp’s plans, and even looking at the bench, there is good strength in depth. The chances are that the Reds will spend at some point, largely because it is the done thing and they do still have a gap to bridge between themselves and Man City. That being said, the disparity is not a massive one, and if Mauricio Pochettino’s work at Tottenham has taught the Premier League anything, it is the value of keeping a strong and reliable dressing room over splashing the cash willy-nilly. This summer promises to be a fascinating one on Merseyside, but it’s important that the club remembers sometimes less is more.
