There were many standout performers in the past year at Liverpool – with Jurgen Klopp transforming the Reds into a totally new side with his ruthless style of attacking football.

For once at Anfield, the spotlight wasn’t just on their free-scoring front three, with recent new signings Alisson Becker, Virgil Van Dijk, and Fabinho all playing pivotal roles in their run to Champions League success.

The emergence of both Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold shows the progression taking place at Liverpool.

Their two full-backs have quickly become their two most important players at the club, more so in attack than defence.

Klopp has demanded a quicker style of build-up play to penetrate defences more through their possession-based football, and their defensive duo are the two who most epitomise the success gained from a change in style.

Scotland international Robertson has boldly claimed at the end of the season that he believes he can become even better, and this must be music to ears of all Liverpool fans.

Robertson said to the Liverpool Echo: “I’ll never praise myself because I think there’s always improvement to be made. Even when I have a good game, you can still do things better. I’ve had a good season but I still have a lot of improvement to make and hopefully, I can show that in the following seasons.”

The 25-year-old delivered 11 assists this season, while also having an 83.2% passing success while in possession. What is more impressive about Robertson is the fact that he averages more key passes per game (1.4) than Roberto Firmino (1.3), who is at the heart of nearly every attack for the Reds. [WhoScored]

If the £50,000 per-week star [Spotrac] believes that he can continue to get better after arguably his best ever season as a professional footballer, then all Liverpool fans are in for a treat as their club hunt a Premier League trophy to go alongside their recent Champions League success.
