YouTube star Mark Goldbridge has said that Manchester United are going to lose the race for Lille attacker Nicolas Pepe to Liverpool.

Goldbridge, who hosts ‘The United Stand‘ YouTube channel, on Thursday moved to downplay any talk amongst the United supporters of them signing the Ivory Coast international.

“We aren’t getting Nicolas Pepe so dudes may as well get used to him in a Liverpool shirt,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

French publication L’Equipe reported on Thursday that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is desperate to bring in the 23-year-old, who could cost as much as £70.9million.

OPINION

It certainly seems that, if Pepe does move to England this summer, it will be to Anfield rather than Old Trafford. Liverpool have long been linked with the Lille star, who scored 23 goals and bagged 12 assists for the French side this campaign. He is a very similar player to Mohamed Salah, someone who comes inside from the right and scores with consistent and ruthless precision. You can’t say he’s on the Egyptian’s level just yet, but at 23 years of age he has plenty of time to get there. However, what’s worrying from a Reds perspective is that L’Equipe’s report states that Pepe may only arrive on Merseyside because there is tension between Klopp and Salah. There’s likely no Liverpool fan who would want Pepe signing for the club if it means Salah departs. It’s hard to see Liverpool moving for the Ivorian when they have Salah, though. So this is a complicated one and probably not something that the Reds faithful should get too excited about just yet.
