Liverpool will let goalkeeper Shamal George leave on a free transfer to join Swindon Town but want a sell-on clause included in the deal, according to the Daily Mail.

The national newspaper claim that the Reds want a sell-on clause included in a deal for the 21-year-old shot-stopper in case he fulfils his potential and moves up the leagues again.

The Daily Mail report that George will be ending a decade-long spell if he departs, however he has never featured for the club’s first-team and instead has been loaned out to the likes of Carlisle and Tranmere.

OPINION

It’s quite sad to see a youngster leave a club after such a long time, having not ever featured for the first-team but a move to League Two’s Swindon could work wonders for George. The 21-year-old appeared only three times for Liverpool’s U-23s in the Premier League 2 in his 2018/19 campaign with him instead having a loan spell at League Two’s Tranmere Rovers. However, it’s fair to say the loan spell probably didn’t go as well as George hoped it would. Tranmere opted to use George as just cover for their first-choice option Scott Davies, so he spent the majority of his latest season sat on the bench. In fact the Reds youngster ended up not featuring in the league for Tranmere as their first-choice option had quite a decent campaign. Davies racked up 23 clean sheets and only conceded 62 goals in 54 outings, so no wonder George couldn’t leapfrog him in the pecking order. When George did feature for Tranmere in the EFL Trophy, he didn’t exactly blow anyone away as he conceded five goals in two outings. So when you consider this and the fact he has been at Anfield so long without featuring, it’s no surprise the club are ready to wave goodbye and hope he achieves success elsewhere.
