Championship side Middlesbrough are interested in making a move for Liverpool winger Ryan Kent this summer, according to Goal.

The outlet claims that the north east outfit are one of several teams taking a look at the 22-year-old, who enjoyed a phenomenal season on loan with Scottish giants Rangers this term.

The Teesiders are set to appoint former Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate as their new manager, and the Englishman has a good relationship with the Reds’ recruitment team and sporting director Michael Edwards.

They were thought to be close to signing Kent in 2017, but he moved to Bundesliga side Freiburg instead. Liverpool have slapped a £12million price tag on the Englishman as they consider his future this summer.

OPINION

Middlesbrough are an interesting option for Kent, because all the noise emanating from The Riverside this summer is that they are looking to promote youth and take a younger approach to their team in the wake of missing out on the Play Offs under former boss Tony Pulis. So Kent would fit in perfectly with what they’ve got going on on Teeside at the moment. However, will they be able to stump up the £12million fee it would take to sign the player permanently? Kent’s preference is thought to be to avoid another loan spell, and either to stay and fight for a first team place with Liverpool or move away on a permanent basis. It’s unlikely, then, that he would favour a loan move to Boro, while it remains to be seen if they have the money, or the willingness to spend said money, to secure the Reds starlet. It’s certainly going to be an interesting summer for Kent, who clearly has his pick of options after an excellent season at Ibrox.
