Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills has suggested that Kylian Mbappe will be a superb signing for Liverpool but doubts that the Paris Saint-Germain forward will head to Merseyside this summer.

According to the Mirror, Liverpool want to sign the 20-year-old France international amid doubts surrounding his future with Ligue 1 champions PSG.

Although Mills is a massive fan of Mbappe’s talents, the ex-England international does not expect the European champions to be splashing the cash on any big-name signings before the start of next season.

“Mbappe is clearly an immense talent, but what’s Mbappe going to cost you?” Mills told Football Insider.

“Wow, realistically, £200million, maybe more. Are Liverpool really going to pay that amount for Kylian Mbappe? I know he’s very, very young but I don’t see that happening, certainly not at that price?

“I don’t think they need a marquee signing but I certainly think they have to spend because if you stand still you go backwards. Klopp has come out and said we need to spend some money to move on and go to the next level.

“They’ve still got to beyond Manchester City to rip that first title for 30 years away from them. If you want to move forward, they’ve got to add two or three quality squad players.”

OPINION

PSG will surely want a lot of money for Mbappe. The former Monaco attacker was in amazing form last season as he won the Ligue 1 golden boot award as his side won the French league title. Across all competitions, Mbappe made 43 appearances in the 2018/18 campaign, scored 39 goals and supplied 17 assists. He is one of the best players in the world already and is only 20-years-old. If Liverpool get a sniff of being able to sign Mbappe this summer then they really should have a go. Although it would surely be a Premier League record signing, Mbappe would be worth every penny of his transfer fee – even if it does exceed £20million. Roberto Firmino is a great forward, but he doesn’t come close to Mbappe in terms of the number of goals he scores and his potential. Liverpool would win the Premier League title next season if they signed the PSG star. Not even Manchester City fans would be able to argue against that.
