Liverpool attacker Sheyi Ojo has agreed terms on a new five-year contract extension with the club, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that the 21-year-old is ready to put pen to paper on a new deal, although it may not be announced until a series of loan deals have been secured.

Scottish giants Rangers are in talks over a loan move for the speedster, who spent last season at French side Reims, but struggled to truly make an impression.

Th Englishman only signed a fresh contract last summer, but Jurgen Klopp is clearly keen to secure his future despite his indifferent spell across the Channel.

OPINION

This is a bit of a strange one, to be honest. It’s bizarre that Liverpool are seemingly in such a rush to hand Ojo a new deal considering his distinct lack of progress in France this campaign. He already put pen to paper a year ago, so it’s not like his current contract is set to run out any time soon. Apparently, though, Klopp and co. have seen enough from him to want to keep him around long-term and cultivate his development. A loan spell at Rangers would be a good next step for the youngster, who needs to get back on his feet after that disappointing spell with Reims. Steven Gerrard has shown with Ryan Kent that he can get the best out of young players and the Reds will be hopeful that he’s able to do the same thing with Ojo. However, whether he is good enough to ever truly make the grade at Anfield remains to be seen.
