Kylian Mbappe is very much the boy king of professional football at the moment. At just 20 years of age he is already a World Cup winner, and seems nailed on to lift at least one Ballon d’Or during the course of his career. With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both on the wrong side of 30, and with Mbappe already established as one of the biggest household names in the game, he is bound to be a real footballing force for many years to come. Because of that status, and his boundless potential, it is easy to see why fans of any of the biggest clubs in world football would be desperate to snap him up. And that’s why Liverpool supporters went into meltdown after Daniel Sturridge’s latest Instagram post. The Kop striker, who is on his way out of the club, shared a photo himself alongside Mbappe, and the Kop immediately interpreted as a sign that the starlet is on his way to Merseyside. The reality of the situation was probably a whole lot more humdrum than some kind of undercover mission of persuasion from Sturridge, but with 39 goals in 43 appearances for PSG last season, it’s easy to see why they might be dreaming of a mega move to Anfield. At this stage, however, it is surely just a dream, and nothing more.
