Former England international Darren Bent has claimed that he can ‘guarantee’ that Liverpool will win a trophy next season, something he says Tottenham Hotspur have ‘forgotten’ how to do.
The two teams met in last season’s Champions League final, with Jurgen Klopp’s side coming out on top. Now, Bent has revealed that he has concerns that the Reds are ahead of his former team in one key area.
“As soon as you win a trophy you know what it’s like, with Jurgen Klopp all them finals they lost, now he’s won the Champions League it’s like a weight off his shoulders now,” he told Football Insider.
“I guarantee you Liverpool will go and win something else next season because they’ve been there, they know how to do that. I think Spurs maybe have forgotten how to win trophies, how to get the job done. All it takes is one and I think they’ll kick on again.”

It’s far too simplistic to say that just because Liverpool have won something that they are 100% certain to go and do the same thing next time out. You never know what’s going to happen in football, so it’s silly to try and guarantee that the Reds will be victorious next term simply because they were last season. Obviously it’s better to have experience of winning big games, being there and doing it, but that’s no guarantee that Klopp’s men would come out on top if they reached the Champions League final for a third time in succession next campaign. It’s also foolish to say that Tottenham have forgotten how to win trophies. Say they reached the Carabao Cup final against Wigan Athletic next season, is Bent going to predict the Latics will win because they’ve tasted silverware more recently than Mauricio Pochettino’s side? No, of course he isn’t. So his argument is a bit flimsy, but his overall premise that experience of winning things helps you to continue to be successful is sound.
