Darren Bent implied Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes should join Liverpool ahead of Tottenham after being asked about the reported interest in him.

Max Rushden asked Bent about A Bola‘s report which claimed Fernandes’ agent was in the United Kingdom to have discussions with Spurs, Liverpool and Man United about his client.

The talkSPORT host then asked Bent if he was in Fernandes’ situation with Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester United all coming in for him, what would be his preference.

Bent responded by saying Liverpool would be his first pick, then Tottenham then Manchester United.

“One Liverpool, two Spurs and three Manchester United,” said Bent on talkSPORT (17:43, Thursday July 4th).

OPINION

Bent, who previously played for Tottenham, sprung a surprise by suggesting Fernandes should prefer Liverpool ahead of their two Premier League rivals. As you would think Bent would favour his former club. However, it’s no surprise that Bent thinks Liverpool are the best option on the table based on their 2018/19 campaign. Liverpool beat Tottenham to the Champions League trophy and finished with 26 points more than Spurs in the Premier League and were notably 31 points ahead of Man United, so why wouldn’t they be seen as the most attractive prospect for Fernandes? Hopefully, the Sporting Lisbon midfielder feels the same as he could make a real difference at Anfield. The 24-year-old scored 32 goals while assisting 18 during the 53 appearances he made across all competitions, and averaged a very impressive 3.6 shots per game (Source:WhoScored). Fernandes would clearly bolster the Reds’ already formidable attack, after all they did score 89 league goals in their latest campaign, and he could help them finally win the Premier League if he joined them.
