Adrian Durham boldly claimed that Everton defender Lucas Digne is the best left-back in the Premier League and that he would perform better than Andy Robertson if put in Liverpool’s team.

The talkSPORT shared that he thought the 26-year-old Toffees full-back was a fantastic player who was a revelation at Goodison Park last season.

Durham added that he knew his claim about Digne would make Liverpool fans go crazy, but insisted he thought the Toffees player was better than Robertson.

“Digne was a revelation, a fantastic player, fantastic for Everton, arguably the best player in his position in the Premier League,” said Durham on talkSPORT (18:12, Wednesday, July 24th).

“I know Liverpool fans will go crazy, but I think he is.

“If you put him in Liverpool’s team, I think he performs even better than their left-back.”

OPINION

The level of shade that Durham is throwing in Robertson’s direction is quite remarkable as he doesn’t even bother to directly name the Liverpool left-back. This is completely disrespectful even if he does rate Digne higher. It’s understandable why Durham rates Digne so highly as the 26-year-old did wow in his 2018/19 campaign. The Frenchman scored four goals while assisting four across the 35 league outings he made and even managed to be named Man of the Match on four occasions (Source: WhoScored). So there’s no denying that he is a talented player but better than Robertson? It’s debatable, to say the least. The 25-year-old Reds left-back racked up six more assists than his Everton rival in the league as he got 11 in 36 league outings, and he had a significantly better pass success rating. Robertson’s completed 83.2% of his passes whereas Digne only completed 76% of his. So with that in mind, you feel Durham maybe just trying to push Liverpool fans’ buttons by claiming Everton’s Digne is better than Robertson.
