European heavyweights Inter Milan have been sniffing around a potential reunion with Liverpool playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri, according to the Daily Express.

The newspaper claims that the 27-year-old has now returned to Merseyside for pre season training, despite the uncertainty surrounding his future with the club.

Their report states that Antonio Conte’s side have been linked with a possible reunion with the Switzerland international, who played for them between January and July 2015.

The former Bayern Munich man only arrived at Anfield in the summer 0f 2018, but could potentially move on after just a year with Jurgen Klopp’s team.

OPINION

It would be strange for Shaqiri to leave Liverpool only to return to a club where he surely only has negative memories. It’s not as if he performed very well for Inter or was given much of a chance at the San Siro. No, he failed to have any real impact for the Italian giants and was given only a few months to prove his worth before they shipped him off to Stoke City. Obviously there is a new regime in charge at Inter now, and a manager in Conte who will know Shaqiri well having game-planned against him many times while he was at Chelsea. Having said that, it would be incredibly harsh for Klopp to give up on the Swiss star so soon after signing him. Shaqiri wasn’t amazing in his debut campaign on Merseyside, but he showed enough in flashes to indicate that he could still be a big player for the Reds if given the opportunity. To move him on after only a year would surely represent a major misjudgement on Klopp’s part.
