Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum dubbed Reds teammate Divock Origi the blessed one after he returned to Melwood for pre-season training.

The Reds’ official website previously confirmed that Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri were to join up with their Liverpool teammates on Monday for testing, and then published a picture on the club’s Instagram account once the Belgian attacker walked through the doors.

Origi’s return saw Wijnaldum take to the comments to send a three-word message to express his joy at his teammate being back after the summer break.

“THE BLESSED ONE,” wrote Wijnaldum in all-caps, via his Instagram account.

OPINION

Wijnaldum was likely not the only one hailing the return of Origi as many Liverpool fans were no doubt thrilled to see him back at the club. The 24-year-old forward may not have been a guaranteed starter under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in his latest campaign, but he weaved his way into the heart of supporters by scoring some memorable goals. Origi scored the winning goal against local rivals Everton in December after being on the pitch just six minutes, before scoring twice in the Champions League semi-final second-leg against Barcelona. The 24-year-old also scored against Tottenham in the Champions League final, in order to wrap up the win and ensure the prestigious trophy was heading to Anfield. These goals have practically given Origi hero status amongst Liverpool fans and it will be interesting to see how he fares in his 2019/20 campaign. Origi only played 366 minutes of the Reds’ Premier League campaign in the latest season and should be aiming to feature way more.
