Liverpool are ready to bring former player Philippe Coutinho back from Barcelona, according to Le10Sport via Sport.

The outlet claims that the Reds are aware of the playmaker’s desire to leave the Nou Camp after a hugely underwhelming season in Catalonia.

The Spanish champions are open to offloading the Brazil international due to his struggles since making that big money move to Ernesto Valverde’s side.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is said to see the 27-year-old as a key addition for his team’s hopes of continuing sustained assaults on the English and European games.

OPINION

This seems a little far-fetched, doesn’t it? Yes, Coutinho was a fabulous player in his Liverpool pomp, but the fact remains that Klopp’s team have very much moved on from the diminutive Brazilian. The Reds have changed their style and formation since losing the former Inter Milan man, and have gotten even better as a result. At this point, it’s difficult to see where Coutinho fits into this Liverpool team. He wouldn’t get in the front three ahead of any of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, while he’s surely too offensive to operate in the midfield three. Fabinho seems to be a lock to start in the holding midfield role moving forward, while Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will all be competing for the other two spots in midfield. That doesn’t leave space for someone, like Coutinho, who is so attack-minded. Obviously he is a magnificently gifted footballer, but now doesn’t seem like the right time to have him back in a red shirt.
