Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren joked about getting fined after beating manager Jurgen Klopp to a header during pre-season training.

The centre-back, who earns £100,000-a-week at Anfield (Source: Spotrac), shared a pre-season snap of him appearing to knock Klopp to the ground in order to head the ball clear, and cheekily suggested he’d get punished for the incident.

“Guess who?  Sorry #gettingafine,” wrote Lovren on his personal Instagram.

Lovren made a total of 18 appearances across all competitions for the Reds in his 2018/19 campaign, and scored one goal as well as registered one assists in the process.

OPINION

Lovren does like having a laugh on Instagram and it seems he is enjoying pre-season as well. The Reds defender is not afraid to make fun of the fact that he appears to have clattered Klopp in training, and that shows the good relationship he has with his manager. This is especially the case when you consider how many other managers probably would have fumed at being knocked down, and likely would have an issued a fine on the spot. However, considering Lovren is joking so publicly about this moment in training, a fine clearly isn’t coming his way. As for the upcoming campaign, it will be interesting to see how often the 30-year-old features in Klopp’s side. Lovren managed to make only 13 league appearances in his latest campaign, with injuries limiting his outings, and faces more competition to feature in his 2019/20 season. After all, Joe Gomez has returned from injury and will likely try to keep the Croatian out of the team.
