Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol provided an update on Liverpool’s summer transfer dealings and referred to a report linking Real Madrid with Sadio Mane.

The Daily Express recently reported that Real Madrid were preparing to offer Jurgen Klopp the chance to sign winger Marco Asensio if the Reds were willing to give them Mane in exchange.

Solhekol shared that he didn’t believe that deal was going to happen and also added that there were questions over the future of Liverpool duo Simon Mignolet and Dejan Lovren, but he thinks the Reds will only let them go if the price is right.

“There are reports that Real Madrid are trying to sign Sadio Mane and offer Marco Asensio in exchange for Mane and I don’t think that is going to happen,” said Solhekol in a transfer recap on Sky Sports.

“There are question marks over the future of Simon Mignolet and Dejan Lovren but I think Liverpool will only let them go if the price is right.”

OPINION

Wow. The most shocking thing about this update is that a Sky reporter felt the need to clarify the chances of Liverpool swapping Mane for Asensio were non-existent. The transfer report involving the Liverpool attacker was hard to believe on first reading and it seems very unlikely that he is about to be traded to Real Madrid. The 27-year-old Reds winger is a very important member of Jurgen Klopp’s side so it’s hard to see him leaving anytime soon. Mane played 50 times across all competitions for the Reds in his 2018/19 campaign and scored an impressive 26 goals while registering five assists. The Reds winger ended his latest campaign second in the club’s scoring charts, only one goal behind Mohamed Salah, and averaged a goal every 163 minutes (Source: BBC). It’s also worth pointing out that while Mane only finished one goal behind Salah, he actually fired a notable 39 shots less at goal than his Reds teammate. So with stats like that, Mane’s exit shouldn’t be considered a realistic possibility, especially as he is contracted to the club until 2023.
