Rangers manager Steven Gerrard sent Alberto Moreno a message on Instagram after the Spanish defender officially had his last day at Liverpool.

The 26-year-old left-back had previously taken to his personal Instagram account in order to send a message to Liverpool’s staff, supporters and players with him now officially no longer a Reds player due to his contract expiring.

Moreno’s farewell message saw the Gers boss and Liverpool legend Gerrard take to his verified Instagram account to send the defender a three-word message to wish him good luck on the next chapter of his career.

“Good luck amigo,” wrote Gerrard, via his personal Instagram.

Moreno then responded to Gerrard’s message by saying “thanks captain”, a nod to the fact the Rangers boss was captain of Liverpool for a portion of the left back’s stint at Anfield.

OPINION

This exchange will likely have some Liverpool fans feeling nostalgic, after Gerrard took the time to wish Moreno the best. It was classy of the Rangers boss, who is likely busy preparing his side for the upcoming season, to take a brief moment to wish one of his former teammates the best as they take an important step in their career. Moreno played 141 times for the Reds, scoring three goals, after joining from Sevilla in 2014. The 26-year-old racked up one piece of silverware during his time, the Champions League that the club recently won, and will no doubt be looking to add to his trophy cabinet with his next club. While Moreno’s exit is a little sad, as he had been with the Reds for a while, it’s the best decision for both parties. The left-back only made two appearances in the Premier League in his 2018/19,  averaging a rather low match rating of 6.65 (Source:Who Scored), and racked up only eight minutes of playing time in the Champions League. This was significantly down on his 2017/18 campaign, where he featured eight times rather than eight minutes in the Reds’ Champions League campaign and made 16 Premier League appearances. Jurgen Klopp opting to hardly use Moreno showed how the Reds could succeed without him, and a player like the 26-year-old, whose hitting his peak years in football, should be at a club where he is regularly utilised.
