Tottenham are in pole position to sign Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos this summer as Liverpool look set to miss out on the Spain international, according to the Independent.

The news outlet claims that Ceballos, 22, is keen to quit the Bernabeu before next season starts and while there is Premier League interest in the former Real Betis ace, a move to Anfield no longer seems to be an option.

Ceballos has made 56 appearances in all competitions since joining Real Madrid in July 2017.

He only made 13 starts in La Liga last season.

OPINION

Tottenham are definitely going to be signing a good player in Ceballos if they can pull off a move for the Real Madrid central midfielder, so it is a major blow for Liverpool to be set to miss out on him. Not only does it seem that Jurgen Klopp is going to miss out on a good young midfielder, it always seems like one of the Reds’ top-six rivals, according to the odds on stoixima24.net, is going to strengthen themselves. Ceballos may have only started 13 times in the league for Real Madrid last season, but the 22-year-old definitely impressed with his passing ability. According to stats by WhoScored, Ceballos completed 92.6 per cent of his passes last season and also averaged one key pass and two long balls per match. Liverpool do have players like Ceballos who like to sit deep a control the tempo in the midfield, but the wantaway Madrid player would still have been a good addition to Klopp’s side. Tottenham are getting themselves a great player if Mauricio Pochettino pulls this off.
