Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that reported Liverpool target Kai Havertz will not be leaving the Bundesliga club this summer.

According to German newspaper BILD, Liverpool have joined Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the race to sign the 20-year-old midfielder, who is valued over £89.8million.

After Bayer Leverkusen’s official English Twitter account was tagged in a post that referenced the BILD story, the German side responded to the report.

They said: “How many times do we have to say he’s not leaving this summer?”

OPINION

Liverpool might be interested in Havertz, but it seems as though Leverkusen have no interest in letting the Germany international leave the BayArena this summer. Some of Europe’s top clubs are reportedly eyeing up Havertz and who can blame them? The 20-year-old is one of the best young midfielders in the Bundesliga at the moment after last season he scored 20 goals and supplied seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Leverkusen. Havertz can play as a central attacking midfielder or on the wing, which is why he would be a good signing for Liverpool if they were able to land him this summer. Jurgen Klopp could do with adding some strength in depth to his options away from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah while the No 10 role is something that hasn’t really been filled since Philippe Coutinho quit Anfield to join Barcelona in January 2018. Although Havertz would be a top addition, it does not seem as though a move will happen.
