OPINION
Joe Gomez has been superb for Liverpool over the last year or so and even though he missed a lot of action last season due to an ankle injury, his form in pre-season suggests that 2019/20 is going to be a massive campaign for the 22-year-old defender. Many Liverpool fans were drooling over the centre-back’s display against Sevilla at Fenway Park on Sunday night. It is rare for a defender to be so highly praised after a 2-1 defeat, but that’s the thing with Gomez, he’s just that good. Him and Virgil van Dijk could form the best defensive partnership in the Premier League next season. Van Dijk is already one of, if not the best defender in the world and Gomez is only going to get better and better from playing alongside the colossal Dutchman. Although it’s a pre-season match and it should not be read into too much, it really is great to see Gomez back in good form, especially after he missed around five months of action last season.
