Some Liverpool fans on Twitter are thrilled with a report by L’Equipe which claims that the Merseyside club has matched Lille’s £71.6million valuation of Ivory Coast forward Nicolas Pepe. It’s not hard to see why they’re so happy with the French newspaper’s transfer report. Pepe, 24, scored 23 goals and supplied 12 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions to help Lille finish as runners-up in Ligue 1. According to stats by WhoScored, the forward averaged more successful dribbles, completed more passes and won more fouls in the league last season than what Mohamed Salah managed for Liverpool in the Premier League. In league matches, Pepe also matched Salah for the number of goals he scored and supplied three more assists. Both of their teams were runners-up in the league and while the Premier League is a lot stronger than Ligue 1, Lille were not expected to finish anywhere near second last season. Pepe would be a superb signing for Liverpool and fans have every right to be excited about his potential arrival at Anfield.
