Premier League sides Newcastle United and Aston Villa are going head-to-head to try to sign Harry Wilson from Liverpool but the Reds would be reluctant sellers, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim, on their live transfer blog (15:04),  that the Reds will not loan the 22-year-old winger out again after his spell at Derby last season and consider him a potential player for the first-team after an impressive pre-season.

Sky Sports report that Liverpool value Wilson at more than £20million and imply that the Reds will only sell him if Wilson feels an opportunity elsewhere is too good to turn down.

It is believed that Newcastle and Villa are in the early stages of talks with the Reds about Wilson, with both open to either securing him on a permanent or temporary basis.

OPINION

Impressive pre-season? Wilson by most accounts hasn’t made the most of his chance to feature for the Reds’ first-team during pre-season as he hasn’t exactly wowed. In fact, the 22-year-old winger struggled against Sevilla so much so that some Liverpool fans on social media were calling for him to be sold. So with that in mind, it’s hard to believe that Jurgen Klopp is currently considering Wilson as a potential first-team player, as you feel the Welsh winger needed to do more in recent matches. However, maybe the German boss saw something that others didn’t during pre-season, after all, he has witnessed Wilson every day in training, and that could see him get a chance at Anfield. Wilson has made only one appearance for the Reds’ senior side during his career, but did wow while on loan with Derby last season. The 22-year-old scored 18 goals and assisted six in the 49 outings he made for the Championship side, and averaged a very impressive rating of 7.01 across his league outings (Source: WhoScored). With that in mind, Wilson may feel entitled to a chance in the Premier League and if the Reds won’t guarantee him minutes, then perhaps he will try to force through a move to Newcastle or Villa.
