OPINION

Senior football has been a long time coming for Rhian Brewster. The Liverpool teenager has been touted as one of the most impressive prospects in the Reds’ academy system for a while, but the ankle surgery he had to undergo in January of last year was enough to put pay to any realistic hopes of him making an impact, and even though he featured in the match day squad for the Champions League final, he would no doubt have much rather been out there on the pitch. Now, however, it looks as if he could be on track to start his first team journey at Anfield, and as far as introductions go, they don’t get much better than his performance against Tranmere Rovers. It might only have been a friendly, and it might have been against League Two opposition, but a brace for the youngster was a fine way to remind everybody of just how special he promises to be. Jurgen Klopp has made no secret of the fact that he wishes to give Brewster a chance to prove himself this term, as reported by the Metro, and on the basis of this outing, that faith looks more than justified.
