Liverpool have received no contact from Real Madrid over the potential signing of Sadio Mane, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The local newspaper claimed on their website that the La Liga giants haven’t made an approach for the Senegalese winger, who is currently on international duty in the African Cup of Nations.

Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane was said to be open for a move for the 27-year-old, with El Desmarque reporting that the Frenchman would be open to the possibility of the Reds signing Marco Asensio, should they offer Mane and £67.3million this summer.

Mane was in great form for Liverpool last season, joint-winning the Premier League Golden Boot award alongside Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and teammate Mohamed Salah.

This will be music to every Liverpool fans’ ears. The worst possible outcome this summer would have been for the Reds to have lost one of their pivotal players going into one of their biggest seasons yet. Jurgen Klopp has established a squad capable of challenging for all silverware, and after missing out on the Premier League title by a point last time out, next season is where it really counts. Mane is one of the squads integral players, with his pace and work rate irreplaceable on the left-hand side for Klopp. Alongside his 22 goals in the league, Mane also averaged 1.3 key passes per game – despite only delivering a single assist, which possibly highlights his teammates’ poor finishing after the Senegalese man created an opportunity. [Source: WhoScored] The signing of Asensio would be a marquee arrival in Merseyside, but there is no chance Mane should be sacrificed in order to make that happen.
