Former Liverpool ace has taken to Instagram to send a message to current Kop ace Gini Wijnaldum.
The 28-year-old midfielder featured of the Reds during their 4-1 demolition of Norwich City on Friday night – a result that ensured they started the new Premier League campaign with the same intensity and quality as they finished the last one.
Posting to his personal account, Wijnaldum shared a photo of himself during the match with the caption: “Good way to kick off the new Premier League season, Reds!
“4 goals and our first 3 points in the pocket.”
Compatriot Babel then replied: “Yes bruv…”

In a game full of flair and breathless attacking football, Wijnaldum put in an altogether more understated performance against the Canaries. Whereas his teammates went about their business at breakneck speed, ripping Norwich to shreds time after time, the Dutchman took a more measured approach, acting as the glue that held the hold thing together. His pass completion rate of 92.3% was exemplary, especially when you consider that he made an impressive 39 passes, as per Whoscored. Apart from one successful dribble, the 28-year-old did little else in the way of creativity, but his constant movement of the ball, recycling possession and giving it to those players who can do more damage in attacking areas, was a crucial platform that allowed his side to kick on and start their season with a convincing victory. Every team needs somebody to do the unglamorous work, and Wijnaldum was excellent in that role on Friday.
