Stan Collymore believes Liverpool will finish second in the Premier League in the 2019/20 campaign.

The outspoken pundit and former Reds forward revealed that he thought Manchester City would win the league, Liverpool would be in second, Tottenham in third, Chelsea in fourth and Arsenal would end up fifth.

“1. Manchester City 2. Liverpool 3. Spurs 4. Chelsea 5. Arsenal,” wrote Collymore via his verified Twitter account.

The former Liverpool forward shared that he came to the conclusion that Jurgen Klopp’s side would finish second, based on trends from last season, pre-season form and their summer transfer business.

“So, no supercomputers, just analysis of every squad, trends from last season, a little pre-season form and numbers in, out along with key areas improved… I’ve done my 2019/20 projected table,” wrote Collymore.

OPINION

Collymore believes the same five teams that finished in the top-five last season will once again be there again, with his only change being that Tottenham and Chelsea have switched positions. Given that Chelsea have been under a transfer ban this summer and only finished a point above Spurs’ last season, it’s easy to see why Collymore thinks Mauricio Pochettino’s side now have the edge over the Blues. It’s also easy to understand why Collymore believes Manchester City will beat Liverpool to the Premier League title when you read the factors he considered when making up his projected league table. For some odd reason, Collymore claimed he took pre-season form into account. Liverpool have won only three of their summer friendlies and recently went on a winless run that stretched four games. This clearly influenced Collymore’s prediction, however, the Reds’ pre-season results aren’t a true reflection of their team. Klopp has been using pre-season to give some of the club’s youngsters a chance, with some of them likely not to feature in the upcoming campaign, as he hasn’t had his usual star players of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to call upon. So while only time will tell whether Collymore is right to claim Man City will get the Premier League title at Liverpool’s expense, for now, fans shouldn’t sweat about his prediction as his logic is flawed.
