Club Brugge have made contact over the potential signing of Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The RMC Sport journalist revealed that the Belgian club are keen to go ahead with a move for the experienced Reds’ stopper who has featured for Jurgen Klopp in pre-season.

Tavolieri reported on his personal Twitter account that the links have been going on for days and that Liverpool are not confirming the Euro club’s interest in the £60,000 per-week stopper [Spotrac]

Mignolet has settled into a backup role in Merseyside, with Brazilian Alisson Becker featuring in every single minute in the Premier League last season.

OPINION

Given the fact that Mignolet seems reasonably happy despite the fact he only managed to make two appearances in all competitions last season, Klopp will surely be reluctant to let the Belgian leave. The Reds’ boss will know that not many experienced keepers, such as Mignolet, will sit on the bench all season and not complain about it. A move back to Belgium could be one that tempts the 31-year-old, who could want to move back to his home country where he started his professional career. Having said this, the Liverpool Echo have reported that both Mignolet and Dejan Lovren are more than likely set to stay at Anfield. Either way, it’s a win-win for Mignolet, who can either return back to his home country or stay at the Champions League winners. The fact that Mignolet has refused to comment on the link could mean that the link is genuinely being considered, but the keeper is well within his rights to sit at Anfield and see out his current deal. Either way, Klopp will be more than happy whatever decision Mignolet decides to make.
