Liverpool want to sign Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz next summer, according to Sport1.

The German news outlet claims that Havertz, 20, will not leave Leverkusen this year but would be tempted by a move to either Spain or England in 2020 amid interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.

As well as Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are said to be interested in the Germany international while Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen.

German newspaper BILD reported in the summer that Bayer Leverkusen would not sell Havertz for anything less than £91.5million as he is one of their key players and scored an impressive 20 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions last season.

OPINION

If Jurgen Klopp wants to sign a player who could walk into the Liverpool starting line-up then Havertz would be that player. The attacking midfielder just ticks so many boxes. He is only 20-years-old so can still improve, he knows where the back of the net is, he steps up in big matches and Liverpool could really do with a good attacking midfielder who can provide support to the front-three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Havertz may cost a lot of money but he will surely be worth every penny. Last season, according to stats by WhoScored, Havertz completed 87.2 per cent of his passes while averaging one key pass, 2.6 shots at goal and 1.4 dribbles per Bundesliga match. In the first two games of this season, Havertz has already suggested that he may even improve on those numbers by scoring two goals and running Paderborn ragged in the league by completing four dribbles and four key passes. Liverpool would be playing a blinder if they signed Havertz next year.
