Liverpool will not sell Dejan Lovren unless they are offered upwards of £15 million for him, according to James Pearce.

The £100,000-a-week Croatian [Spotrac] has been linked with an exit this summer, as reported by Football Insider, but as of yet no deal has been agreed.

And Pearce believes that he could end up staying on Merseyside.

Writing in a Q&A for The Athletic, he said: “I can’t see LFC offloading him unless they get a really attractive offer around the £15m/£20m mark.

“As things stand they don’t seem keen on loaning him out.

“I hope he stays as it’s a long season and he will be required at some stage.”

OPINION

At this stage, losing Lovren would only be a negative. Funds aren’t an issue at Anfield, and without the opportunity to bring in an extra body, the Reds would be foolish to weaken their squad now. Lovren is well down the pecking order, but as Pearce says, the season is long and any number of issues can beset a side, especially when they are competing on as many fronts as Liverpool will be. Having a World Cup finalist in reserve is never a bad thing, and even though he may be some way behind the like of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, he can still do a job. Last season he averaged 3.9 clearances and 1.2 tackles per game in the Premier League, as per Whoscored, and in terms of a last resort covering option, there are few better in the division.
