Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster has revealed that he almost left the club earlier in his Anfield career as he didn’t see a future under Jurgen Klopp for himself.

Brewster admitted that at the time when Dom Solanke, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings were all still at the club, his time in Merseyside looked bleak.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Brewster admitted he wasn’t interested in more money, but instead just assessing his options, “A couple of years ago I was looking at the pathway into the Liverpool team and I thinking, ‘it is just going to be the same here as it was at Chelsea’.”

“At the time there was Dom Solanke, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings still here, all ahead of me. I was never thinking about getting more money, just realistically assessing the situation.”

The Telegraph revealed that at the time in 2018, there were offers on the table from Bundesliga from clubs such as Red Bull Leipzig and Borussia Monchengladbach.

OPINION

Patience is something that can favour a player massively in the Premier League, and it appears as if Liverpool are going to reward Brewster in the upcoming season, with Klopp set to give the 19-year-old a bigger role. Brewster admitted in his interview that he is set to make an impact in the top-flight, with a role of the bench surely going to give him the biggest chance to make an impression. To turn down a move to the Bundesliga at that time in his career was surely a big opportunity to make, especially given the impact Germany has had on the career of young English prospects such as Ademola Lookman and Jadon Sancho. Brewster was the Reds top scorer in pre-season with four goals, and Klopp will surely be hoping he can replicate that form on the biggest stage. The starlet recovered from an ankle injury last season to feature on the bench against Barcelona in the Champions League – with that little taster surely a sign of things to come for Brewster.
