Wolves forward Diogo Jota has taken a Liverpool-themed dig at Manchester United before their clash on Monday.

The Portuguese striker has warned the Red Devils that if they don’t win silverware then they could face losing some of their fan-base from around the world.

Jota compared Man United to Liverpool in an interview with the Daily Mail, saying that the Reds are starting to turn their dominance into silverware, something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must do.

“It has to do with the moment and we have to be honest and say that Liverpool is having a better moment right now than Man United,” he said.

“Everyone likes winners and when the younger fans look at other countries, they like to see a team that is winning like Man City and Liverpool.”

Liverpool have won their first two pieces of silverware under the management of Jurgen Klopp, with the first of those being their sixth Champions League trophy at the end of last season – that success being followed by the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.

OPINION

Liverpool fans will no doubt love the comments made by Jota, who says football is all about moments. Manchester United have been missing for a long moment as it stands, with the Red Devils struggling to keep up with the continued success of clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester City. Last season’s Premier League was nothing short of a two-horse race, with other sides simply not good enough to keep up with the two giants. Jota is right, Liverpool are definitely better than United right now, and will continue to be better as long as Klopp is in charge at Anfield. All you have to do is look outside of silverware and examine the stats of both managers. Gunnar-Solskjaer’s point per game average only stands at one per game according to Transfermarkt, whereas Klopp has a much better record with 1.97, despite managing 200 more games. Liverpool are streets ahead right now, and United could do themselves some favours by reviewing just how the Reds go into games.
