Jurgen Klopp reached 300 points in charge of Liverpool after Saturday’s 2-1 victory against Southampton in the Premier League.

The victory over Saints meant that the German reached the milestone in 146 top-flight games since taking charge in 2015 after a spell at Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report from talkSPORT, Klopp became the quickest manager to reach the 300 point barrier in the club’s history – beating club legends such as Bob Paisley and Bill Shankly.

Klopp was almost made to wait to reach the 300 point-mark after a costly mistake from stand-in goalkeeper Adrian meant that the Reds were made to hang on in defence for the final 10 minutes at St Mary’s.

OPINION

There is no doubting that Klopp is loved at Anfield by all involved with Liverpool, and he is delivering the results to back that support up. There are so many legends in the history of the Reds, and the German has already cemented his place in that – with this stat proving it even more. To get there in 146 games means that he has a point per game average of over two in Premier League, something that many managers have failed to do. Managers such as Paisley and Shankly have delivered some of the great moments in the history of the club and have been remembered always from those pieces of magic, and Klopp has started to deliver similar moments after years of creating his style. His fast-paced possession football has finally been implemented for a full-season and it delivered the Champions League trophy to Merseyside for the sixth time, and now he has his sights set on delivering the first-ever Premier League title – something that would all but confirm him as one of the greatest managers in the history of Liverpool.
