OPINION

It was all going so well for Liverpool against Norwich City on Friday night, they were three goals to the good and cruising under the lights at Anfield. An own goal and goals from Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk made things look comfortable, and Jurgen Klopp’s men had picked things up from where they left them last season. Things didn’t look as cosy when influential stopper, Alisson Becker, pulled up injured towards the end of the first half and had to go off though. Klopp confirmed the news at the end of the game, as quoted by The Athletic journalist James Pearce on his personal Twitter account, that Alisson would miss the European Super Cup against Chelsea after suffering a calf injury. That is bad news for the Reds, with the Brazilian international being a key part of their possession-based style. The 26-year-old averaged 28.3 passes a game last season, with only 4.8 of those being long balls according to WhoScored, proving that he was one of the main sources who recycled possession and started new attacks. Many Liverpool fans took to Twitter after the game to react to the news, with many gutted that their main keeper is set to spend a spell on the sidelines, with one simply writing “so sad,” whereas another took the opportunity to back new keeper Adrian to make an impact, saying “Adrian masterclass needed.”
