Rhian Brewster has revealed that he asked Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for a loan move at the beginning of the season, but the German refused the suggestion.

The England youth international has yet to make his Reds debut, but could feature against MK Dons in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

But speaking to Four Four Two, Brewster claimed that he had considered leaving Anfield to seek first team opportunities elsewhere.

He said: “I spoke to him at the beginning of the season and he just said “no”.

“He doesn’t want me to go on loan, he wants me to stay.

“So that’s fair enough and it’s good to hear.”

OPINION

This is great news for Liverpool fans, and for Brewster himself. Ordinarily, sending a player out on loan at Brewster’s age and with the potential he has wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world, but it is evident that Klopp has big plans for the youngster, and if he is able to ensure his development at Anfield as opposed to somewhere else, then that can only be a positive thing. A debut in the Carabao Cup seems like the smartest move, and after scoring in preseason, you wouldn’t be overly surprised to see him make a similar sort of impact in competitive action. Obviously, with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi ahead of him in that central striker’s role, opportunities could be at a premium, but if he is patient and seizes any chances that do come his way, there is no reason why he can’t slowly eek his way into the picture.
